Reviews
CENTRAL Line Touring injected new life into Ibsen's heavyweight Norwegian parlour drama.
A-level text and students would be pushed to find a clearer interpretation than Richard Ely's new adaptation.
Amanda-Leigh Owen was all suppressed anger and frustration, feeling imprisoned in a life of boredom and genteel poverty after her marriage to the scholarly Jurgen.
Director Kim Gillespie made clever use of the Studio space to leave the surrounding audience like flies on the wall watching the lives of the characters unravel towards a tragic conclusion.
Well acted, well directed - and well worth a few extra marks at 'A' Level.
VERDICT: ***** 5 Stars
Rodger Clark - The Birmingham Mail
In the absence of Dietrich, Davis and Garbo, director of Central Line Touring, Kim Gillespie, has found his own muse, Amanda-Leigh Owen.
Ms Owen is incandescent in a performance perfect fro the intimacy of the Garrick Studio, her glittering eyes and complete absorption in the role matched only by the audiences’ own. If you miss this you will be missing one of the performances of the decade. Neglect if you dare.
