Central Line Touring was established in 1994 to give members of The Central Line Personal Management Co-operative the opportunity tomake and tour theatre collectively and to therefore provide an enhanced employment and creative environment. In January 2005 the company decided to establish itself more independently of the co-op and to widen its work and profile.
During 2005 a number of school's tours were been produced as well as two highly successful productions in The Studio at The Garrick Theatre in Lichfield - The Beaux Strategem and Tartuffe. That year also saw the hugely successful debut of It's Not Unusual written by our own Rebecca Mahon. The sell-out show at Leicester Haymarket Theatre was part of the comedy festival and earned Rebecca a well deserved nomination for new writer. It has since toured regionally and was performed at the Buxton Fringe Festival in 2007. It's Not Unusual continues to develop and more news will follow.
2006 saw a shift away from these comedic pieces with Hedda Gabler being performed in The Studio and then back to fun and frolics in 2007 with Much Ado About Nothing in the main theatre at The Garrick. Both of these shows were supported by educational programmes.
2008 sees a return to The Studio at The Garrick where a production of Dario Fo's Accidental Death of an Anarchist will be running from Nov 4th to Nov 15th.
The company is a member of the ITC and now makes its own decisions based on its agreed artistic policies and interests. All shows have been directed by Kim Gillespie whose commitment to artistic diversity, creative rigour and ensemble playing always engages and often surprises.
